  1. The color and the general artistry is great, I think, and the backdrop is mostly good. I had pictured Shadowfax as looking somewhat "nobler" and Gandalf has an odd expression on his face. I like most aspects of the picture very much, but the faces are not quite right and the entire work has something of a feeling of vanity to it, if you take my meaning. This is not one I would put up in my room.

  3. The horse is brilliant, the proportions , the sense of movement etc. I agree with Lanklamenyn about the faces. Wothout being rude I think Luca should stick to animals.
Has any one else notice the imagery on Shadowfax using the highlighting over his skin to give the appearance of lightning and energy? Or am I see too much in this picture :) Either way I like it.
However the central feature of this painting arethe people, Gandalf and Pippin (look at the title) and for that I can only give the picture a 3

  5. The back ground looks great..even like Shadowfax, could have had a longer mane, but have to agree that the two figures arent up to the rest of the picture, they almost look imposed onto it.Gandalf's wardrobe isnt quite the coloring I had figured, and pippin looks like hes having fun, considering the urgency around the story at this time,I wouldnt think it so.If I bought it ,I would by it in tapestry form, and hang it beside the the black velvet bullfighter, and buy a black light,or go try to win it at a fair,or carnival printed on a mirror.

  7. It's tempting to give this picture a higher rating at the first glance of it; the colours and the artistic style make it eyecatching and dynamic, one may even take it for something by Ted Nasmith (though his works are MUCH more skilful than this). But at a closer look there are details like the ones mentioned above that are questionable, like the strange expression on Gandalf's face. And he just could not possibly wear such a big mantle; it seems huge enough to serve as a tent for all three of them!

  11. The background color is beautiful. (but, I've always been a sucker for blue) Then I looked at the images and began to shiver. Not from awe, but from "Aw, shucks!" Oh, look at my wizard. It's enough to make one cry. Shadowfax is alright, though he looks like he's been cattle prodded. And, surely, that can not be Pippin. Oh well, for the background and the color blue, I give this a two.

  13. Don't get on my case for that--I'm 100% Italian (well, Italian-American).

This just isn't very good. The color and light effects are nice, but the figures are bad. A "2" for color & effects, but that's it.

  15. Gandalf's beard just isn't right his facial expressions are totally messed and Frodo looks like a midget with huge feet ( no offense ) it has a great background and shadowfax is ok, but look at it people it just isn't how one would imagine it to be.

  23. I've read the trilogy about 13 times now and I think this picture represents the characters well, except, in the story, Gandalf is depicted wearing a cloak. In the picture, the artist might have given him a cloak but I don't think the cape on it was supposed to be that big, even in the wind, on a horse. A FLYING horse! And I DO have to agree with Master_of_Arda on the size of Pippin's feet.

  25. Not bad at all. I like it; es-
pecially Shadowfax. I also like the way the artist utilizes the space above the
    main figures, filling it with
    moon, clouds and stars (some
artists - even some very gif-
    ted, well-known ones, would
have left us with just blue
    emptiness). A very strong "3".

  35. This artist has real drawing talents; alot of people don't seem to like this work because of the way he draws the characters. This is obviously his was of seeing Gandalf, Pippin and Shadowfax; and there is no crime in that. With drawings and paintings you have to look at the quality of the work; and the skill put into it, not the way the characters' features are depicted. I can't stand it when people constantly criticize artwork; it's people like that who have made it on my s**t list. Instead of looking for characters pleasing to the eye all of the time, or what you like; look for the time and talent put in to it. This is an excellent piece of art, and it most definitely does not suck. Do'Svidaniya

  39. It captures the atmosphere of the ride, not necessarily
the details. If you look closely there are discrepancies
from the book, but it's still marvellously evocative.
