Not only was he supposed to be wreathed in fire a carry a flaming sword, but this picture is at least 10 years old. It was in the 1991 version of the Lord of the Rings Game. I think the Gallery should put special links only to new pictures.

he doesn't need a flaming sword, this picture could have easily been made of a later point in the battle after mithrandir shattered the Balrog's sword. However the balrog should be reathed in fire soo... yeah, it's not too great.

that balrog looks like my old man.... in fact he seems pretty un-scary to me... his nose ought to be longer and more no-human looking you know. Excellent image but!

somehow - to me- it seems that with so much attention to detail some of the magic goes away. It seems like a snapshot from the toy-store's dinosaur department, if you know what I mean..

I like the style of the picture, but not the contents. The Balrog doesn't look big or extremely evil. He doesn't even look all that dangerous. Gandalf would be able to take something like that without a problem. It sort of reminds me of a demon from some Greek myth...
