Sci-fi Wire posted the following comment from McAvoy at a recent interview they conducted with him:

It's just Internet conversation. It's nothing true, I'm afraid. I've not been contacted by anybody to do with The Hobbit... I'd be interested in reading the script if ... when they write it. But that's a long way away, I think. But beyond that, you can't make any decisions.
